IDC: PC sales will grow slightly due to Trump’s duties and failure
The specialists of the International Data Corporation (IDC) revised their expectations regarding the computers market in 2025. The company’s report was familiarized with the publication Tom’s Hardware.
IDC researchers reduced the forecast for the global market for personal computers (PC). Experts expect that the duties of US President Donald Trump for goods from China will hit sales. However, all the same, the market, according to the results of 2025, will grow by 3.7 percent to 273 million pieces. But until 2029, the growth will be insignificant-no more than 1 percent per year.
Experts also admitted that they overestimated the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on the PC segment. The category of computers with AI is still poorly accepted in the world, but in 2026 new models with potential will appear on the market.
The supply of computers for educational and corporate sectors will grow most in a year – 6.7 and 4.3 percent, respectively. In total, 0.2 percent will grow sales of computers for ordinary consumers.
Including in the commercial sector, sales will grow due to the need to update computers against the background of stopping Windows 10 support. This will provide the market with constant support throughout the year.
In early January, IDC researchers said the global supplies of computers have grown slightly in 2024. In just 12 months, 262.7 million devices were shipped to the market, growth was 1 percent.
