Xiaomi has announced the creation of its third Surge P1 processor. This is reported by the publication MyDrivers.
The proprietary semiconductor equipment was unveiled during the event on December 28, at which the company launched the Xiaomi 12 line of smartphones. The chip controls the fast charging process, providing up to 120 watts of power to the battery. The first device in which the processor was installed was the flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The Surge P1 is the industry’s first resonant charging chip, with 97.5 percent efficiency and a 30 percent reduction in heat loss, the company said. It took 18 months from the beginning of the creation of the chip to its launch into the series; the prototype was tested about 2500 times. According to Xiaomi’s report, the Surge P1’s design is about nine times more complex than other battery controllers.
In maximum mode, the processor can supply power to a 120 watt battery. In this mode, a smartphone with a 4600mAh battery can be fully charged in 18 minutes.
The first Xiaomi processor was the Surge S1 released in 2017. Earlier in 2021, the company introduced the Surge C1 chip, which appeared in the Mi Mix Fold smartphone.
At the end of December, it became known that Huawei had opened a new venture to produce its own processors. Thus, the corporation can solve some of the problems associated with being on the US sanctions list.
