Iverify: The proportion of Pegasus iPhone virus is 0.15 %
Iverify specialists said that malicious PEGASUS software can be used for surveillance and ordinary iPhone users. This was paid attention to the publication 9TO5MAC.
PEGASUS is a spy virus created by the Israeli company NSO Group and used to monitor politicians, activists and journalists using the iPhone. In mid -2024, Iverify launched an application capable of determining the presence of PEGASUS on Apple devices – they managed to reveal the scale of infection with the virus.
The report states that out of 3 thousand Iverify smartphones scanned by the 7 iPhone, traces of the virus were found. Until the end of 2024, the number of scanned Apple phones exceeded 18 thousand. Researchers found new infected devices and calculated that the share of infected iPhone was 0.25 percent. In other words, 2.5 cases of infection were found for 1000 tested devices. Iverify summed up that the true share of the infected iPhone in the world is close to the indicator of 0.15 percent, or 1.5 cases per 1000 devices.
Security experts came to the conclusion that PEGASUS is used not only to monitor known persons – the virus was found on smartphones of ordinary users. The researchers summed up that the smartphone hacks carried out through PEGASUS will influence the wide layers of society in the future.
