Donald Tusk met with the head of Google. An important declaration. “Over a million Poles”

A few days ago, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that his government “He is getting Google and Microsoft investment plans in Poland.” On Thursday, the head of the first of these companies came to Warsaw, Sundar Pichai. During the joint conference, Tusk and Pichai announced the signing of the memorandum on cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

Today we are announcing the signing of a new memorandum on the use of artificial intelligence in the field of energy, cyber security and in other key areas for the development of Poland. We estimate that thanks to our future cooperation we will be able to increase Polish GDP by about 8 percent.

– Sundar Pichai emphasized. “Poland is currently the largest Google engineering hub. We employ 2,000 employees here. We believe that thanks to the possibilities that artificial intelligence and tools such as Google Gemini give us, we will be able to deepen this cooperation even more” – added Google president.

Thank you for signing this memorandum between Google and the Polish Development Fund. We create frames that will enable Google’s greater investment involvement in Poland. From a state point of view, this is important for our security.

– the prime minister added. “Thanks to cooperation with Google, we are able to provide tools, mainly in the area of ​​artificial intelligence, which can very effectively help in deregulation – reconstruction and modernization of the economy and administration. I will talk about this tomorrow with young Polish scholars and entrepreneurs,” he pointed out.

The agreement concluded with Google also applies to the worth over $ 5 million the program under which Google will train Poles in the field of digital skills and support for artificial intelligence tools.

This is not the first visit of Sundar Pichai in Poland. The head of Google visited Warsaw for the last time in March 2022, when he met with the then Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The conversation concerned threats in the area of ​​disinformation in connection with Russia’s aggression to Ukraine. But not only. – We talked to the Pichai Sundar about a change on the energy market. […] We want to cut off from Russian gas. Poland will do it as one of the first countries in Europe – said Mateusz Morawiecki after the meeting.

The new headquarters is to accommodate up to 2,500 employees, including teams responsible for the development of cloud technology

In turn, in 2021, the Pichai Sundar announced in Poland worth almost $ 2 billion (about PLN 8 billion) an infrastructure investment – Google Cloud Region Warsaw. It was the first technological hub of the American concern located in Central and Eastern Europe.

This is not the end of American investments in Poland

There is no doubt that Donald Tusk’s “American offensive” is directly related to Donald Trump’s election victory. The new American president has been implementing his “America First” economic program from the beginning of his term of office. Trump has repeatedly announced that the United States would do business only with those countries that will open to American exports and investments.

What about Intel’s investment?

However, we still do not know what to do with the investment announced in 2023, in which a modern plant of the American concern integration and semiconductors was to be built in Miękinia near Wrocław.

In September last year, Intel announced that for two years he suspended all key projects in Europe – including an investment in Poland, for which the technological company intended to allocate over PLN 18 billion. The reason for this decision was – according to the then head of Intel, Pat Gelsinger – financial problems that the concern has been struggling with for many months.

The American company previously announced that the new Intel plant in Poland, combined with the existing Silicon wafers factory in Ireland and the second planned plant in Magdeburg in Germany, will help create the first comprehensive, technologically advanced supply chain in the field of semiconductor integrated circuits in Europe.
