Before you connect a flash drive to your phone

First thing – check what connector your phone has. In newer androids you will find USB-C, in older microUSB models, and in many iPhones Port Lightning. This is key information before buying a pendrive or adapter.

The next step is to make sure that the phone supports external media at all. In the case of Androids, just download an application such as “USB OTG Checker” from the Play Store. One click and you know if everything will work. In the case of iPhones, the matter is simpler – all newer models work with external media.

What will you need?

You have two options. The first is the purchase of a special pendrive with the right tip for your phone. On the market you will find models from USB-C, MicroUSB or Lightning. The second option is an ordinary flash drive and adapter (also called OTG adapter).

It is better to have a flash drive in format FAT32 or EXFAT – these file systems work best with phones. NTFS can cause problems, especially on older devices.

How to combine it?

In the case of Android, the matter is simple – you connect a pendrive (or flash drive with an adapter) to the charging port. The system should detect new equipment itself. If the notification does not appear, look into “files” or “file manager” – there you should see the connected media.

IPhone users They must arm themselves with a pendrive with a lightning connector or an adapter with this port. After connecting, the system may ask you to install the appropriate application – it is usually provided by a pendrive manufacturer.

Step by step files

When the pendrive is already visible in the system, you can start moving files. In the case of photos, the easiest way to do this by the gallery – you select selected photographs, choose “Share” or “move” and indicate the pendrive as a destination.

You will transfer documents and other files through a file manager. Just select what you want to copy and choose a flash drive as a target. Remember not to disconnect the carrier while sending – you can damage the files.

The most common problems and how to deal with them

The phone does not see a pendrive? Check if the adapter is not damaged – the cheapest ones can act unreliable. If that doesn’t help, try to format a pendrive on your computer.
