CIRP: At the end of 2024, every third IPhone sold in the United States was old
In the third quarter of 2024 in the United States, irrelevant Apple smartphones, which were published in 2023 or later, became popular. This was reported in the report of Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (Cirp).
According to the study, the share of the smartphones of the iPhone 16 line was 68 percent. At the same time, every third acquired iPhone – a share of 32 percent – turned out to be irrelevant. So, the iPhone 14 accounted for 16 percent, the iPhone is 15 – 8 percent, the iPhone SE – 5 percent of sales.
According to experts, this may be due to the fact that even the old Apple smartphones that have been released 2 or 3 years ago still work well and slowly become obsolete. Therefore, before the holidays, the Americans decided to save money and began to buy cheap devices more often.
Among the current smartphones, the IPhone 16 Pro Max was the leader, which received a share of 23 percent. However, other devices of the series were not very behind him: 21 percent came on the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Pro – 16 percent, the iPhone 16 Plus – 8 percent of sales.
At the end of January, it became known that Apple’s Corporation began to lose positions in one of the world’s largest smartphones – in China. Analysts by Canalys and Counterpoint Research independently put Apple in third place in the supply of smartphones in the region.
