Apple to update its cheapest computer for the first time in 14 years

Apple to update Mac mini with M4 processor and compact size

Apple will release a compact version of the Mac mini desktop computer, ArsTechnica reports.

The media referred to a report by insider Mark Gurman. According to the specialist, by the end of the year Apple will introduce an updated version of the Mac mini, which is considered the brand’s cheapest computer. The current price of the device in the US starts at $599, or about 52 thousand rubles. The cost of the new model is not disclosed.

According to the insider, the device will receive an M4 processor and a new design. Thus, the computer will be comparable in size to the Apple TV set-top box. ArsTechnica journalists noted that the device will be seriously updated for the first time since 2010, that is, 14 years after the release of the computer in a unibody all-metal case.

The device will also come with at least three USB-C ports for connecting accessories. The current Mac mini has two USB-A ports. In addition, the device with the M4 processor will be equipped with an HDMI interface for connecting a monitor and a network port.

The first Mac mini was introduced in January 2005, the current model appeared in early 2023. The device is considered the most affordable computer from Apple, but to use it, you need to buy a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

In early August, Apple Inc. stopped selling its CD-ROM drive for computers. Currently, all current computers of the American brand do not have a built-in drive.
