Apple’s neural network will become paid

CNBC: Apple to Charge Up to $20 a Month for Using Neural Network

American corporation Apple is going to monetize the artificial intelligence (AI) functions that will be available on the iPhone, CNBC reports.

In a conversation with the TV channel, Counterpoint Research analyst Neil Shah said that Apple Intelligence’s neural network will eventually become a paid service. Shah noted that investments in AI are expensive and the American company will pass on the costs to consumers.

According to the expert, access to the neural network will cost from 10 to 20 dollars per month, or about 1.7 thousand rubles. However, in order to reduce the negative reaction of users, the IT giant will sell access to AI functions through a paid Apple One subscription. At the moment, access to the subscription in the US is $ 19.95 per month. It includes Apple Music and other services. Apple One will probably become more expensive.

Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight, agrees with Neil Shah. “Apple has previously set a precedent for its users by forcing them to pay for premium services,” Wood said.

Apple rival Samsung launched its Galaxy AI service in January. The neural network remains free, although the South Korean company has acknowledged that it will charge for its use.

In early August, Apple reported its third-quarter 2024 financial year results and reported a drop in demand for iPhones. At the same time, the company set a record for quarterly revenue, which amounted to $85.8 billion.
