Apple Stops Selling CD Drive

9to5Mac: Apple Stopped Making and Selling CD Drives

Apple has stopped selling its CD drive for computers, 9to5Mac has discovered.

The device, called the Apple USB SuperDrive, was a CD and DVD drive that could be connected to a Mac via USB. 9to5Mac noted that Apple recently stopped selling the drive.

According to experts, it appears that the American company has also stopped making accessories. This is likely due to the decline in popularity of CDs among users. 9to5Mac readers have noticed that the Apple USB SuperDrive has disappeared from the Apple online store, but it is still available from some retailers.

Media journalists recalled that the external disk drive appeared after the release of the MacBook Air in 2008 — the brand’s first laptop without a disk reader. Then the company decided that they could sell disk drives separately. At the moment, all current Apple computers do not have a built-in disk drive.

In January 2022, Apple declared the 2012 MacBook Pro obsolete. It was the last laptop from the American brand to feature a built-in CD and DVD drive.
