Apple to Release Smartwatch for Kids

Bloomberg: Apple to Release Smartwatch with Plastic Case for Kids

Apple has planned to release a smartwatch aimed at children, Bloomberg reports.

According to the agency’s observer Mark Gurman, the company intends to change the positioning of its most affordable smartwatch — Apple Watch SE. Gurman believes that the third generation of the device will have a plastic rather than metal case. The company will also advertise the device as a smartwatch for children.

The article says that plastic is less susceptible to destruction than aluminum, which is used in many Apple watches. Also, to attract a new audience, the gadget’s body will be painted in bright colors.

Mark Gurman noted that new materials and positioning will reduce the cost of the Apple Watch SE to $200, or about 17 thousand rubles. The Apple watch does not work without a paired iPhone, but the children’s version can be configured using the parents’ smartphone.

The first generation of the Apple Watch SE was introduced in 2020. The device received a less powerful chip than the flagship Apple Watch and lost some features.

Earlier, journalists from 9to5Mac reported that Apple had planned to release several gadgets for the fall. These included the iPhone 16 smartphones, the Apple Watch 10 smartwatch, and the AirPods 4 headphones.
