MoneyControl: Apple to Assemble iPhone 16 Pro in India for the First Time
Apple Corporation intends to launch production of new flagship smartphones outside of China, MoneyControl reports.
According to sources, the company has decided to start manufacturing the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max at factories in India. This is the first time that the country will launch production of flagship devices – previously, Apple only manufactured basic smartphones in India.
Foxconn will be in charge of production. The factories will begin the process of introducing the new product soon, and then mass production will begin. The MoneyControl article says that Apple hopes to diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependence on China.
The first Apple smartphones were assembled in India in 2017, when the company launched production of the original iPhone SE. Since then, the region has produced the iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus. Largely due to this, the new smartphones were available to Indian buyers on the first day of sales.
Apple is expected to announce four new smartphones in September. The lineup should include the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max.
In April, Bloomberg sources said that Apple CEO Tim Cook would consider moving gadget production to Indonesia. Cook also promised to open his production to the Vietnamese authorities.
