Canalys: Samsung Retains Smartphone Market Leadership with 18 Percent Share
South Korean corporation Samsung remained the leader in the global smartphone market in the second quarter of 2024. This is reported in the latest report by Canalys.
Samsung’s share reached 18 percent. Analysts named American Apple the second largest smartphone manufacturer, which received a share of 16 percent. Chinese Xiaomi retained the third position, having won 15 percent of the market. Below them were Chinese companies Vivo and Transsion.
The smartphone market has continued to grow for the third consecutive quarter, with shipments up 12 percent year-on-year to 288 million units, according to Canalys.
Amber Liu, research manager at Canalys, noted that the positive trend in the market is due to the recovery in demand and the emergence of new technologies, primarily generative artificial intelligence (AI) services. Competition in the global market is intensifying, as Chinese giants Honor, Oppo and Vivo are focusing their attention outside the domestic market.
At the end of July, it turned out that Redmi became the most popular smartphones in Russia in the first half of 2024. The top 5 in terms of sales in real terms, according to Marvel Distribution, also included Tecno, Realme, Infinix and Samsung.
