Emergency telephones in Silesia are down. Incoming calls are being redirected to other provinces. – I can confirm that there have been problems in our Emergency Notification Center – says Michał Tomanek from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice.

The reasons for the failure of emergency telephones in Silesia are not yet known. It is also not known how long it will last. This concerns the numbers 112 and 999. Calls arriving on these numbers are redirected to the appropriate services in other provinces.

Problems with calls to 112 and 999 are confirmed by the Katowice police. – I can confirm that there were problems in our Emergency Notification Center. I do not have detailed information on what the failure concerns – says Michał Tomanek from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice. He adds that the emergency number 112 is working, “although it is answered in another province, probably Opole”.

The spokeswoman for the Silesian Voivode, Alicja Waliszewska, said that “all numbers are being answered and patients currently have full security of assistance”. – Alternative service channels have been launched. Residents are secured – the spokeswoman assured.

112, the single pan-European emergency number, was introduced in 1991 due to a European Union directive. The number 112 is used to notify in situations of threat to health and life, but also property. After the call, the operator of the number notifies the appropriate services: ambulance, fire brigade, police, water rescue services, etc. They can also connect the person directly to the appropriate service. In turn, 999 is the emergency number for the ambulance service. The call is answered directly by a medical dispatcher.
