In the next few months, a European application, “PRAGMATICK COST”, is to appear. Its task will be to monitor the location of ticks on our continent.
Special application “PRAGMATICK COST” will monitor ticks in Europe
The “PRAGMATICK COST” app will allow users to share various information about ticks. For example, users will be able to send photos of ticks and describe their symptoms after being bitten.
– This information will be collected, verified and analyzed by scientists. Thanks to it, among other things, a map of the occurrence of a given tick species in individual regions will be created, so before going on vacation to a country we will be able to check whether there are many ticks there – said, quoted by , Dr. Eng. Anna Wierzbicka from the Department of Hunting and Forest Protection at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań.
Ticks. The application will help in research on arachnids. It will also educate
As we read on the website “”, the project aims to: identify risk factors for the presence of ticks and the pathogens they carry, compare the epidemiological situation in different cities and countries, cooperate with hunters and ornithologists in collecting data and samples, as well as increase public knowledge and awareness of ticks and support the exchange of knowledge by organizing various events. The “PRAGMATICK COST” application is also to be a platform where you can find the most important information and advice about ticks.
The application is being developed by a community of scientists. Among them is also a Pole. It is Dr. Eng. Anna Wierzbicka. In the project, she is involved in the study of ticks in cities. – I would like us to approach the prevention of tick-borne diseases in the same way as, for example, washing our hands or drinking water from safe sources. So that vaccinations against tick-borne encephalitis, appropriate clothing and body checks become obvious to us – emphasized the zoologist.
