Windows Central: Image of Microsoft’s canceled foldable smartphone revealed
Microsoft was developing a foldable Surface Duo 3 smartphone, but canceled its release. Windows Central reports this.
Images of the device appeared in a patent application, which was disclosed by the authors of Patently Apple. According to Windows Central editor Zach Bowden, this is exactly the phone that Microsoft wanted to release, but canceled the release. Sources in the company told Bowden about this.
The device consists of two halves, united by a flexible screen located on the inside of the device. The device also received an additional external display and a triple camera. The smartphone has a hinge that allows it to open 180 degrees.
Bowden also noted that one of the features of the Surface Duo 3 could be magnetic accessories – stands, chargers and other devices that would be held by magnets. “Unfortunately, this patent is only an echo of a project that will never see the light of day,” the specialist concluded.
Microsoft’s latest foldable smartphone, the Surface Duo 2, was released in September 2021. The device received two 5.8-inch AMOLED displays, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a triple camera with 12, 12, and 16 megapixel lenses. The device was valued at $1,500.
Earlier, the Motorola brand, owned by the Chinese corporation Lenovo, announced new folding smartphones of the Razr 50 series. Devices with two screens were priced at a minimum of 3,699 yuan, or about 44 thousand rubles.
