You go on holiday and fraudsters rub their hands. This is how they rob Poles [PODCAST]

How to avoid falling into the trap of fraudsters when planning your dream vacation? What traps await us in hotels? What is skimming? Is it safe to use free Wi-Fi at the airport? We talk about it in the latest episode of the TechnoTerapia podcast. Our guest is Robert Grabowski, head of CERT Orange Polska.

shows that global financial losses caused by cybercriminal attacks in 2023 alone amounted to approximately USD 8.44 trillion. The organization also predicts that by 2027, these losses will increase to $23.84 trillion. So we are talking about colossal sums here that are hard to imagine.

Cybercriminals are also taking their toll in Poland. The CERT Orange Polska report shows that in 2023, this team blocked over 360,000 fake websites, and as many as 5.5 million Polish Internet users clicked on links leading to websites created by fraudsters during that time. The most popular threats identified by CERT last year were phishing, DDoS attacks and malware.

And we talked about these threats – especially in the context of the upcoming holidays – in the new episode of the TechnoTerapia podcast. Our guest was Robert Grabowski, head of CERT Orange Polska.

Are you going on holiday? Beware of new fraud methods

As a CERT team (Computer Emergency Response Team), we primarily deal with detecting threats on the Internet. This includes: about malware, phishing, telephone spoofing and many other traps that Internet users may fall into

– explained the expert.

Robert Grabowski pointed out that although cybercriminals often change their methods of operation, the most popular and effective method of online fraud has for years been phishing, which involves impersonating a well-known person, company or organization.

– Currently, over 40 percent of the attacks we identify are phishing. Very often, it is also the first vector of a more sophisticated attack that allows malware to be installed on the victim’s computer – notes the head of CERT Orange Polska.

Criminals are not only able to perfectly adapt to geopolitical realities, but also respond to all new security technologies against attacks and then effectively bypass them. They regularly change attack methods and scenarios

– explains Robert Grabowski.
