GSMArena: the first foldable iPhone will have one display that folds outwards
Apple’s first foldable smartphone will have one display. This was reported by GSMArena.
Media journalists cited a report by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who revealed the design of the future device. According to him, the folding Apple smartphone will be very similar to the Huawei Mate Xs 2, a gadget with a folding screen that was released in 2022.
If Jeff Pu is right, the first foldable iPhone will fold face out and have only one display. In the case of the Huawei flagship, the device had a 7.8-inch OLED screen, which when folded transformed into a 6.5-inch display.
GSMArena specialists named the advantages of this form factor. Firstly, there is no need for a lid, which means the device will be lighter and thinner. Secondly, Apple can save on production costs since it will only implement one display instead of two. The main disadvantage of the design is the location of the screen, which virtually always remains open and, thus, can quickly become unusable or break.
In early May, analyst Jeff Pu said Apple would release a foldable tablet in 2025 and a foldable smartphone in 2026. The company is considering two form factors for the first foldable smartphone – with a 7.9-inch and 8.3-inch screen.
