HP said people are using printers less frequently after the pandemic

Hewlett-Packard (HP) executives have noticed a decline in requests for paper printing among customers. This was reported by The Register.

Speaking at the 40th annual conference on strategic solutions, HP CEO Enrique Lores announced a crisis in the office equipment market. According to him, consumers began to use printers less often – after the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, people began to print documents 20 percent less often.

HP, which is one of the main manufacturers of printers and printing equipment in the world, noted that this is due to the hybrid form of work that many enterprises have switched to. It is believed that outside the office, users print documents less often. “Every day there are fewer people in the office, and this has led to a decrease in the number of pages,” Lores said.

Hewlett-Packard noticed that their corporate clients also began to spend less money on purchasing equipment and consumables. The lifespan of the average device has increased. However, the market has seen some recovery, partly because corporations have begun printing more packaging and labels for their products.

In March, analyst firm IDC said PC shipments fell nine percent in 2023 due to the pandemic and inflation. Dell, HP, Lenovo, NEC and ASUS remained the market leaders.
