Google promised not to take away smartphones from their owners

Google said it will not confiscate smartphones with non-original spare parts.

Google Corporation commented on the situation with the repair of branded smartphones. Android Authority reports this.

Previously, blogger Louis Rossmann studied Google’s rules and found out that the company has the right to confiscate a smartphone being repaired from its owner if the device contains non-original spare parts. The clause in the contract caused outrage among social media users. Google representatives contacted Android Authority journalists and promised not to take the phones away from their owners.

Experts said that if a client returns a faulty device to an official service center, the company will do everything possible to fix it. However, it is not safe to service smartphones with parts made by third-party manufacturers.

Google said that if non-original spare parts are found in the gadget being repaired, which in one way or another impede the repair, the service center manager will contact the client. Next, the service center will either return the device to the owner or discuss with him further actions to correct the situation. The corporation also noted that it has updated the rules of its service centers.

At the end of May, journalists from 404 Media found out that Samsung has reserved the right to seize certain parts of users’ smartphones during repairs. According to the authors, this can happen if non-original spare parts are found in the phone.
