IDC: the market of wearable gadgets grew by 8.8%, prices decreased by 11%

In the first quarter of 2024, the market for wearable devices – smart watches, headphones and other gadgets – grew by 8.8 percent. This was reported by PhoneArena with reference to a report from the analytical company IDC.

According to experts, the market segment has successfully started 2024, demonstrating growth. Apple remained the market leader, with a share of 18 percent. This is the company’s lowest figure over the past five quarters – in the fourth quarter of 2023, the IT giant’s share was 25 percent. Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung were located below, the share of other brands was 47 percent.

Despite the market growth, ASP (average selling price, average selling price) decreased by 11 percent – experts noted that prices for wearable gadgets were falling down for the fifth quarter in a row. This is due to the economic crisis and the proliferation of devices in emerging markets – manufacturers produce a large number of inexpensive devices.

IDC Research Director Ramon T. Llamas singled out small manufacturers operating in emerging markets. He noted that prices for gadgets from global brands are prohibitively high, so small manufacturers are the most successful here.

Previously, Canalys experts said that Apple has retained its leadership in the wireless headphone market. Xiaomi and Samsung also made it into the top 3.
