Counterpoint Research: Huawei ahead of Samsung in the foldable smartphone market
The leader in the global foldable smartphone market has changed. This is reported in the Counterpoint Research report for the first quarter of 2024.
According to analysts, the market grew 49 percent in the first quarter compared with the same period last year. This is a record figure for the last six quarters. The leader in the segment was the Chinese corporation Huawei, which increased supplies by 257 percent over the year and received a share of 35 percent.
The second position was taken by the Korean company Samsung, which until then had always remained the market leader in folding devices. Over the year, smartphone shipments decreased by 42 percent, the IT giant’s market share was 23 percent.
The top 4 also included Chinese Honor and Motorola. Honor took a 12 percent share, increasing shipments by 460 percent. Motorola Corporation received an 11 percent stake. Over the past year, shipments of its devices increased by 1,473 percent.
Analysts at Counterpoint Research also noticed that folding smartphones with a “book” form factor have become more popular on the market. Similar devices received a share of 55 percent.
At the end of May, several insiders predicted the release of the first Apple laptop with a foldable display in 2026. The device will cost about 3-4 thousand dollars.
