Spy features found in popular children’s toy

The children’s toy in the form of a telephone turned out to be unsafe – experts found in it the possibility of remote surveillance. This is reported by the TechCrunch edition.

They tested Mattel’s Fisher-Price Chatter, a toy that resembles a landline phone. It is specified that the device is very popular in the USA as a gift for children and adults. The gadget is a speaker and microphone that connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth during a call.

The journalists found out that the toy contains spy functions. So, after making a call, the connection between the device and the user’s smartphone is interrupted, but Fisher-Price Chatter leaves the Bluetooth connection open for a long time. In theory, this allows an unknown person to connect to the device and eavesdrop on the victim’s conversations.

The authors noted that the instructions for the device say that you can only connect to the phone for a short period of time. However, in reality, the connection limit is more than one hour. Mattel said it would conduct an internal investigation.

Previously, Dr. The Web said smartwatches for child control are poorly protected and can be dangerous to wearers. “Parents need to be careful when buying cheap smartwatches for their kids because of the risks associated with connecting them to the internet,” the experts said.
