– For several months we have been observing that the IT situation on the Polish market is turbulent, unlike anything before – says Tomasz Bujok, CEO of No Fluff Jobs. From the report prepared by his company “?” It turns out that the trend in the IT industry has actually completely reversed. The number of unemployed specialists is growing, the number of job offers is decreasing and the number of candidates per job is increasing.
Gigantic competition on the labor market in the IT industry
The number of job offers in this industry in the first quarter of 2024 was almost 14%. lower than in the same period last year. However, the number of CVs sent per job position has increased. And by as much as 56 percent. We are talking about the average, and if we look at specific specializations, we can see that for some the situation is even worse.
The hardest time is for specialists looking for work as Frontend, i.e. those involved in creating a website interface. The average number of applications for one offer increased by as much as 180% year on year. – from 67 to 187. There is also a growing interest in work among Agile/Scrum Master specialists (by 53%), Tesing (48%) and UX/UI/Design (by 23%). In fact, however, increases of several percent in the average number of applications can be seen in most IT categories.
That’s why people who want to work in IT are becoming more and more desperate. According to the mentioned report, they send 14 CVs a week. As much as 90 percent people who just want to start working in the industry apply for a job where the salary is not specified in the advertisement. Of those who have previously worked in IT, 70.1 percent do so. 58.4 percent also decides to apply for positions with a lower level of required experience than they have, and over 33 percent is looking for a job in specializations in which he has no experience.
IT experts agree. It’s harder to find a job than it used to be
– In a very short time, the effects of project freezes and layoffs overseas became visible, mixed with local challenges: the war in Ukraine and inflation. As a result, something like a temporary employer’s market has been created, and the industry is currently unable to provide as many jobs as it did a year ago – explains Tomasz Bujok.
All this means that as many as 71.4 percent IT specialists believe that looking for a job in this industry is now more difficult than a year ago. In addition, only 70 percent IT specialists declare that they currently have a job, of which 14.3 percent he is afraid that he will lose her soon. The IT industry is also affected by layoffs. Recently, 17.9 percent specialists lost their jobs. There is some consolation in the fact that 60 percent of the unemployed in IT have been unemployed for less than three months. However, every fifth person has been looking for a new job for over half a year.
