Bloomberg: Apple will boost iPhone sales if it launches a cheap smartphone
Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman called on Apple to create a cheap smartphone. A reputable journalist stated this in the Power On newsletter on the agency’s website.
According to Gurman, the company is failing in the smartphone market: for example, IDC predicted a decline in iPhone sales by 10 percent. The specialist noted that the corporation needs to immediately start producing an inexpensive smartphone and thereby increase sales.
The analyst emphasized that even the conditionally affordable iPhone SE, the last of the line of which was released in 2022, is too expensive – at least $429, or about 40 thousand rubles. Mark Gurman recommended that the corporation release a phone for less than $250, or about 23 thousand rubles, and launch it in emerging markets.
However, Gurman believes that Apple will release such a device only as a last resort. “We don’t offer cut-down, lousy products,” Gurman quoted company founder Steve Jobs and said that Apple still adheres to this philosophy. “There are billions of people around the world who do not use Apple products, and the situation may not change without a more affordable option,” the specialist concluded.
In mid-April, well-known insider Nguyen Phi Hung revealed the characteristics of the future cheap Apple smartphone. According to him, the iPhone SE planned for 2025 will receive an OLED display.
