Apple doubles iPhone production in India

Bloomberg: Every 7th Apple iPhone was made in India

Apple has had some success in reducing its dependence on Chinese manufacturing. Bloomberg reports this.

According to experts, in the past financial year, which ended in March 2024, Apple partially transferred the production of smartphones from China to India. Every 7th iPhone, or 14 percent of the total number of devices, was assembled in this country.

Compared to the previous year, Apple doubled the number of devices manufactured in India. During the year, the corporation’s partners produced smartphones worth $14 billion. 67 percent of the orders came from Foxconn Technology Group, 17 percent from Pegatron Corp., and Wistron Corp. took over the rest.

“India is increasingly becoming the preferred production base for multinationals seeking to reduce influence from China,” economist Abhishek Gupta commented on the situation. According to Bloomberg experts, many foreign companies are moving part of their production to India, as the local government is ready to provide benefits in exchange for creating jobs.

In November, authoritative insider Ming-Chi Ko said that Apple would launch a full smartphone production cycle in India. Thus, the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus will be entirely produced in this country, while the production of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models, which are distinguished by a high level of complexity, will remain in China.
