A solar eclipse is a phenomenon that geographically usually bypasses Poland. The last time the Moon completely covered the Sun in our country was in 1954, and it will do so again only in 2135. Fortunately, technology gives us the opportunity to observe this phenomenon. The next stages of the total solar eclipse will be available to follow live on April 8 on NASA’s YouTube channel.
Where to watch the broadcast of the solar eclipse on April 8?
NASA will start the broadcast at 7:00 p.m. Polish time. As scientific journalist and traveler Karol Wójcicki pointed out on the Facebook page “”, the “American” eclipse is to begin on April 8 at exactly 18:38 Polish time, when the Moon’s shadow “will fall in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, from where it will head towards the coast of Mexico.” Later it will move through Mexico, the USA and Canada to end “at 9:35 p.m. in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean.”
Residents of Eagle Pass, Texas, will be the first to see the eclipse in the US – at 1:30 p.m. local time, i.e., around 8:30 p.m. Polish time. The moon will block the sun there for 4 minutes 29 seconds. Around 1:30 p.m. local time, the eclipse will appear over Texas, US, and then in other states, including: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York State, Vermont and Maine. It will then be visible along the Canadian border to the west Atlantic coast.
The next solar eclipse in the US will take place in 20 years
Total eclipses, although the most spectacular, are also very limited locally. They are visible only in a narrow strip with a maximum width of 270 km. On average it is even less, about 100 km. This time, this unusual phenomenon can be observed in the United States in a strip approximately 160 kilometers wide running through 15 American states. The moon’s shadow will pass over an area of the United States inhabited by 32 million Americans.
This will be the first solar eclipse in North America since 2017. We will have to wait 20 years for the next total eclipse in the US. NASA indicates that the next such phenomenon will be visible on August 24, 2044.
