Macworld: with the iOS 17.4 update, iPhone 12 now supports fast charging
Apple has added fast charging support to a number of older iPhones. This was reported by Macworld.
The company did not officially announce this, but the fact of the release of an update that improves smartphones was confirmed by Macworld readers. According to them, after updating the iPhone 12 to iOS 17.4, the devices now support the Qi2 fast charging standard. The iPhone 12 series devices were presented in the fall of 2020.
Qi2 support first appeared in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 with the iOS 17.2 update, which was released in early December. Qi2 protocol support has been available on the iPhone 15 series since its release.
The Qi2 standard involves fast wireless charging at a power of 15 watts. Regular fast charging supports a power of no more than 7.5 watts. Qi2 technology was certified by the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) in November.
Previously, Apple announced the date of the summer conference WWDC 2024. The event, which should show iOS 18 and new versions of other operating systems, will take place on June 10.
