If Google and Apple corporations turn off the smartphones of Russian users, it will be a shot in the foot, says Oleg Matveychev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications. So, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, the deputy spoke about the possibilities of companies.
“Like many of these actions, it’s shooting yourself in the foot. If they (smartphone shutdowns – Lenta.ru’s note) take place, it will be a loss for business, for reputation, and so on. We will survive everything if they come to this. And they will bury themselves,” Matveychev said.
Earlier, the head of the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo, Sergei Kuzmenko, said that Google and Apple corporations have the technical capabilities to disable the smartphones of Russian users. According to the expert, a mechanism for blocking stolen devices can be used for this, and technically such a measure is quite possible.
Roskoshestvo explained that Apple devices will not be able to be used and the data will be lost. At the same time, if Android smartphones are blocked, it will be possible to extract user data, and to unlock it, a flashing will be required.
