“WindRunner” will be a plane capable of carrying the largest cargo ever transported by air. The plane is to be 108 meters long, which is a record, and have a wingspan of approximately 80 meters. “WindRunner” is to achieve a cruising speed of up to Mach 0.6 (approximately 740 km/h) and, in the most economical variant, to transport cargo with a total weight of 72.5 tons. The Colorado-based company assures that production of the machine is scheduled to begin by the end of 2027. The plane has been designed over the last seven years for a specific purpose. Its purpose is to transport huge wind turbine blades, although this will almost certainly not be the only cargo loaded on board the “WindRunner”.
The Radia company creates the plane for its own needs. It produces some of the longest wind turbines in the world. They are the size of a football field and at their highest point would be 90 meters higher than the largest blades currently used on land. They would be, because due to their size, their transport on land is basically impossible and they are only used in offshore wind farms. The plane for transporting huge blades will make it possible to erect structures whose highest point is higher than the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, also on land. Such large windmills allow twice as much energy production as currently available ground-based turbines.

The dimensions of the new machine evoke associations with the Ukrainian “Mriya”, destroyed by the Russians, which until 2022 was the largest air transport in the world.
