Why does my smartphone overheat?

Let’s start with something obvious. The fact that the smartphone heats up slightly while watching movies, playing games or browsing the Internet is a natural phenomenon and results from the higher CPU load of applications. The smartphone may also be slightly warmer when using fast charging technology.

The problem occurs when the phone heats up so much that it is difficult to hold it in your hands. This should definitely be a wake-up call for us.

If the smartphone heats up a lot, we should first check whether we have installed the necessary updates. Very often, errors in the system software cause problems with the smartphone’s temperature. This was the case with the iPhone 15.

#2 CLOSE UNNECESSARY APPLICATIONS

The smartphone may also heat up when it is loaded with too many simultaneously open applications, which place a heavy load on the processor and other components. Then the solution may be to close those applications that we are not currently using.

The case may also be a problem. Recently, thick and quite massive cases have become fashionable. Unfortunately, this type of cover may be made of materials that not only do not help in the effective dissipation of heat from the device, but even block this process.

#4 SCAN YOUR DEVICE WITH ANTIVIRUS

Our smartphone may also overheat when unwanted processes and applications are running in the background – for example spyware or ransomware. First of all, it is worth looking at the application manager and then verifying whether the list includes apps that we do not recognize. Secondly, it is worth scanning your device with an antivirus program from time to time.

In this case, there is little we can do (apart from filing a complaint about the defective product). Another problem we may encounter is the smartphone overheating while charging. In this case, the most common culprit is a faulty charger. Unfortunately, online sales platforms are flooded with non-original chargers, which often do not even have the certificates required in the EU. In this case, it is not worth saving. It’s better to pay extra for the original product

Our smartphone may also overheat when we charge the device and use it at the same time. This is due to the fact that in such a situation the pass-through charging mechanism is activated. Part of the energy from the charger is transferred to the smartphone’s cell, and part to other components – display, processor, etc. Therefore, it is better to avoid using the smartphone while it is charging.

What can an overheating smartphone lead to?

Problems with your smartphone overheating may lead to, among others: down:

• improper operation of the device, e.g. turning on or off at random times;
• shortening the battery life cycle, and in extreme cases even its spontaneous combustion;
• failure of individual components.
