The habit of answering all phone calls nowadays can be extremely harmful, said IT instructor Adam Gordon in an interview with the portal. He also drew attention to a word that we often say at the beginning of a phone conversation.
Avoid this word when talking on the phone
According to Adam Gordon, an IT instructor at the ITProTV training company, it is worth paying attention to how often we use the word “yes” during telephone conversations. Many people start conversations this way. According to the expert, nowadays, where many audio manipulation techniques are available, starting a conversation in this way is risky.
– Just think about what you can do with a recording of a person saying “yes.” In today’s completely remote and faceless world, you can try to gain access, unlock something, authorize something, change data, Gordon noted.
The expert also pointed out that artificial intelligence may be involved in the practice, specifically chatbots that “can easily disguise themselves as humans and imitate human manners.” Let’s also remember that thanks to Al, criminals can use someone’s voice after hearing just a few words – this way they can imitate many people, but not in real time. Adam Gordon points out that real conversation recordings can also be used to create fictitious conversations, which may result in blackmailing the victim.
How to avoid fraud over the phone? The principle is simple
The instructor also reminded us not to answer unknown numbers if we are not waiting for a call. If a given number worries us or we want to check what the caller might want, we can check who it belongs to at Nieznanynumer.pl. Importantly, fraudsters can also use the so-called spoofing, i.e. impersonating a given number. Most often, this applies to institutions, banks and government offices. The number of the public institution is displayed on the phone screen, but the call will be made by a fraudster. In such cases, remember not to provide the interlocutor with personal data, passwords or access codes, e.g. to banking services.
