Germany is boycotting Tesla. It’s all because of pollution. Exceeding the norms by as much as 6 times

The Tesla factory in the German state of Brandenburg is at risk of closure. The local services warn that plants producing electric cars significantly exceed water pollution standards.

The alarm was raised by the waterworks of the Straußberg-Erkner region. During the crisis meeting, a letter was written to the mayor in which the municipal company calls for the suspension of the production of the American giant.

Tesla pollutes water in Germany

The standards for phosphorus and nitrogen in the waters into which Tesla discharges pollutants are to be exceeded by up to six times, and this may be the case for two years. The factory was asked to stop polluting water and even warned by the Strausberg-Erkner Water Association (GPW), but these actions were to no avail. Tesla has neither addressed the problem nor even promised changes in the future. GPW is considering stopping the discharge of the factory’s sewage, otherwise the association will face multi-million costs. An extraordinary meeting of the WSE is to be held in early March.

, which was the first to obtain this information, the company replied that it had its own sewage treatment plant. However, she did not deny exceeding the norms. The factory only reported that thanks to its own treatment plant, the sewage discharged there had a composition typical of municipal sewage. Tesla also does not know anything about the extraordinary WSE meeting.

Germans protest against the Tesla factory

She announced that protests against Tesla will become more intense.

170 hectares are needed for the enlarged Tesla factory, as well as additional warehouses, and most of it is forest. The commune organized a referendum in which as many as 70 percent of eligible Grünheide residents voted – two-thirds of the voters were against the expansion of the Tesla factory. In turn, the state authorities believe that the expansion of Elon Musk’s plants is a very profitable investment.

The referendum is non-binding, but the Minister of Economy of Brandenburg, Jörg Steinbach, has already announced that the result will be taken into account in talks with the American investor in the coming weeks and months. In his opinion, the goal should be to dispel all concerns and doubts expressed by residents. Tesla’s Grünheide plant will start production in 2022. The factory in Germany can produce 500,000 cars a year. After expansion, these possibilities would increase to one million cars.
