The benefits of glucometers in smart watches are appreciated

US authorities said there are no smartwatches on the market with a non-invasive glucose meter

American authorities have clarified the situation with smart watches, the manufacturers of which have announced that the device contains the functions of a non-invasive glucometer. This was reported by The Verge.

Journalists drew attention to the statement of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which states that the American authorities have not certified or given permission to produce wearable gadgets with blood sampling functions without puncturing the skin. Thus, the FDA clarified that there are no smart watches or smart rings on the market that can non-invasively collect blood for analysis.

According to the authors of The Verge, experts thus assessed the benefit of the glucometer functions in smart watches, calling it dubious. The material states that there are currently smart watches on the market that can work in conjunction with glucometers equipped with remote needles for drawing blood.

Media journalists said that there are many gadget manufacturers on the market who provide their products with non-existent functions. “If you see companies selling such devices, report them to the FDA,” the authors noted.

Previously, scientists at City University London revealed that red light helps lower blood sugar levels. It turned out that light of 670 nanometers leads to a decrease in maximum glucose levels by 7.5 percent.
