For several months now, Google has been trying to introduce solutions based on artificial intelligence into its next services. This time it’s time for Maps. The application will gain an assistant who will tell us where to go on a weekend trip or what to see nearby on a rainy day. But these are not the only changes in the popular app.
Artificial intelligence will tell you where to go on vacation
According to information, a new icon “Search with generative AI” has appeared in Google Maps. After clicking, an assistant appears and we can ask him to recommend places nearby. As the examples show, the assistant will tell you where to eat brunch, hang out with friends, how to best spend time outdoors in the area, or where to take your child on a rainy day.
Artificial intelligence in Google Maps is supposed to provide examples of the best places based on the current location (or the district/city indicated in the query), time of day and weather. Of course, after clicking on one of them, Maps can guide us to our destination. Quite useful if we are looking for inspiration for a weekend trip out of town or we are in a new place, e.g. on vacation. Unfortunately, AI-powered features are only available in Maps in the United States at this time. However, he may suspect that Google will also make them available in Europe in the near future.
However, these are not the only new things Google is introducing to Maps. he noted that the company also decided to refresh the Maps interface, which had remained almost unchanged for years. After the changes, the application (I’m talking about the Android version) looks much more modern. Both the search bar and cards with descriptions and photos of specific places have rounded edges and blend better with the background of the map itself.
In addition, a small window with the current temperature and AQI (air quality) index has also appeared in Maps. After clicking on the window, a large frame with the weather forecast and a link to the AQI measurement chart expands. Quite useful when we plan to spend time outdoors. Unfortunately, both features are currently only available to some Maps users.
