Recently, new streaming platforms have started to sprout up like mushrooms after the rain. What’s worse, the existing ones start to raise prices and block their users from sharing accounts, and their offer is fragmenting. This leads to a situation in which we pay more for access to the most popular services than we used to pay for satellite or cable TV packages. And yet these platforms were supposed to be a more attractive and cheaper alternative to cable television, which was hated by many.
The EBU has launched a free streaming service. It focuses on niche sports
We are all the more pleased to welcome the project that the European Broadcasting Union has just launched. It’s a completely free streaming service. On the Eurovision Sports platform we will watch, among others: broadcasts of European Championships and World Championships in disciplines such as athletics, biathlon, skiing and swimming.
As you can easily notice, we are talking here mainly about slightly more niche sports (although the above-mentioned athletics is difficult to be considered such a discipline in Poland). However, Eurovision Sports will not feature the Champions League, Premier League and Bundesliga – the licenses for these most popular competitions are held by paid platforms.
We deeply believe that sport should be for everyone. Our public media already brings many of the world’s leading sporting events to audiences for free, and this new digital platform will provide full coverage so viewers never miss a moment of their favorite event
– said Noel Curran, Director General of the EBU, in a statement. – We hope that thanks to free streaming, Eurovision Sport will democratize access to live sports coverage and help develop individual sports disciplines through their wider reach. Thanks to this, we will all unite through sport, he adds.

Eurovision Sport is now live. How to watch?
The new streaming platform from the EBU is now available at eurovisionsport.com. To watch it, just log in. Unfortunately, for now, the new website is only available in English. In addition to the website, the EBU has also prepared an application for smartphones and tablets with Android and iOS systems. An application for TV sets is also expected to appear at the end of the year.
We already know the list of games that will appear on the platform soon. These will include: World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024, World Indoor Athletics Championships Glasgow 2024, World Team Race Walking Championships Antalya 2024 and World Athletics Relays Bahamas 2024.
It is also worth recalling that Eurovision Sport is not the only free streaming platform dedicated to sports. Last year, the FIFA+ service was launched, where we can watch, among others: archived matches of the FIFA World Cup or the Women’s Football World Cup.
