Cybercriminals very often use companies from the mining and energy industries to promote their fake investments. This time, fraudsters impersonate Tauron and Polish politicians, wanting to extort money from Poles.
Tauron warns against fraud. They impersonate the president, prime minister and ministers
Tauron recently published a message warning against the plague of false advertisements encouraging investment in green energy sources on the network. Fraudsters use the Tauron logo and – impersonating the company – try to manipulate the potential victim and simply extort money from him. As if that were not enough, the advertisements use the images of famous politicians – including the president, prime minister and ministers – to make the scam more credible.
The fraud scheme is usually identical. After clicking on an advertisement found on social media, the victim is redirected to a website where he/she leaves his/her data. Then criminals contact her by phone or via online messengers and try to persuade her to make alleged investments. They usually tempt with high profits in a short time. In reality, however, once the money is received, the scammers disappear immediately.
Tauron warns not to believe advertisements encouraging investment in the company. He emphasizes that he never conducts any activities aimed at encouraging potential investors to buy the company’s securities. He also adds that he does not cooperate with any intermediaries in this regard.
On the Internet, you can come across fake websites using the images of public figures and the TAURON logo. These websites are intensively promoted on social media – including Facebook, Instagram, and the X platform. In this way, cybercriminals try to extort money for alleged investments carried out with the TAURON Group. We warn and emphasize: no company of the TAURON Group conducts promotional campaigns regarding investment, loan or financial products. The only form of investment authorized by us is the purchase of shares through a brokerage office
– said Łukasz Zimnoch, spokesman for the TAURON Group
Tauron also reminds that it is a company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, hence to purchase Tauron shares you need an investment account in a brokerage house. He also appeals to Internet users to always be careful when seeing promises of quick profits, carefully check advertisements found on the Internet and never act suddenly or without thinking.
