Is this a joke or a serious attempt at fraud? The new email from cybercriminals looks tragic

The Central Police Investigation Bureau warns against further frauds in which the image of the police and other services is used. Cybercriminals impersonate, among others: under CB¦P, Europol and Interpol, trying to extort data or money from us.

one of the e-mails in which cybercriminals use the image of this police unit and several other services. The messages are intended to scare users and make them contact the scammers themselves. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that such messages reach Poles’ mailboxes.

Someone is impersonating the Central Bureau of Investigation. “You have 48 hours to contact us”

The authors of the emails claim that they contact the user “shortly after seizing the computer.” They also inform that “various legal proceedings” are being carried out against the recipient of the message. Further on, we can also read about the alleged “international law” from March 2007 and find four random entries regarding, among others, pornography.

The key part of the e-mail is the sentence in which the criminals inform us that we have 48 hours to contact the Central Bureau of Investigation. This information is intended to encourage potential victims to respond without hesitation to the e-mail address clearly highlighted in the message. Moreover, the fraudsters used the logos of several law enforcement agencies (and not only law enforcement) in the message, including the CBA, AWB, KAS, SOP, Frontex agency, Europol and Interpol. Fortunately, the message was created carelessly, so you can quickly realize that it does not come from the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation warns to be extremely vigilant – do not respond to such emails and do not provide any information to suspicious senders. It is worth paying attention to how the message is written and checking the sender’s e-mail address. As a reminder, no official police department uses a hotmail.com email address.
