In a statement, Netflix spoke out about the planned subscription fee increase. It also deletes the cheapest package

There are many indications that in the coming months Netflix may again increase subscription prices in many countries around the world. The platform’s authorities themselves admitted that they could “ask users” to pay a higher amount. However, it will start by deleting the cheapest plan.

On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Netflix The platform recorded a record number of new subscribers and higher revenues. The company closed 2023 with over 260 million subscription-paying customers.

Great news not for customers. Prices may go up again

When announcing its financial results, Netflix also provided investors with information about its plans for 2024, and these – from the users’ perspective – are much less optimistic. Although the platform introduced its last package price increases in 2023 (and in the meantime it was fighting fiercely against account sharing), further increases can be expected in the near future. Netflix has admitted that it intends to get rid of the Basic plan in some markets first.

It offers the ability to watch movies and series on one device and in only 720p resolution, but it is relatively cheap and does not contain advertising. In the US, the Basic plan costs $11.99 per month (currently unavailable to new users there), which is $3.50 cheaper than the Standard plan. This is the result of the introduction of an additional plan with ads (Standard with ads), which costs only $6.99 per month, but requires watching advertising spots before and during the screening. People who value freedom from advertising will therefore have to dig a little deeper into their pockets.

users from the Basic plan in the second quarter of this year. in the USA, Canada and Great Britain. In Poland, the advertising package is not yet available, so the platform will not give up its Basic plan for now. However, it can be expected that sooner or later the new option – and with it the changes described above – will also reach us.wane

It’s not all bad news. “We are asking our users to pay extra”

As if that were not enough, Netflix authorities admitted that they do not exclude the possibility of introducing further price increases for packages. As it was written, with further investments in the platform, Netflix may “ask users” to pay more for the subscription. However, the platform did not reveal when it might send such a “request” to us.

“As we invest and improve Netflix, we will from time to time ask our members to pay a slightly higher amount to cover these improvements, which in turn will help generate a positive flywheel of additional investment to continue to improve and expand our services.” handed Netflix to investors.
