TrendForce: AI will need a PC with 16 gigabytes of RAM to operate

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) on personal computers will require hardware upgrades. This was reported in the TrendForce report.

According to analysts, 2024 will mark the release of computers capable of working with AI at an advanced level. In particular, tools for working with artificial intelligence will appear in consumer PCs, which will inevitably increase the system requirements of operating systems, including Windows.

The material states that for correct operation the computer will need at least 16 gigabytes of RAM. This will force users to purchase a new PC or upgrade an old one.

According to TrendForce, the computers needed to work with AI will need to have a power of at least 40 teraflops. This indicator will be met by new chips – Intel Lunar Lake, AMD Ryzen 8000, Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite.

In early January, Canalys said that in 2024, one in five PCs on the market—or more than 170 million devices—will have built-in AI support. Almost 60 percent of PCs with AI support will be released for organizations and businesses.
