On Monday, January 22, the Minister of Education confirmed that teachers will receive . – March is the moment when teachers will see pay raises with equalization – – We raise them by 30 and 33 percent. for teachers who start working in the profession, not less than PLN 1,500 – she pointed out and emphasized that “this is the beginning, the first step after years of humiliation.” The pay rises will also apply to academic teachers, although universities are under the supervision of a different ministry. Minister of Science and Higher Education Dariusz Wieczorek was asked about the matter on Radio Zet.
Pay raises for academic teachers by 30%. from January 1
– From January 1 – said Dariusz Wieczorek when asked when academic teachers can expect pay raises. – We are finally waiting for the budget, the regulation is being prepared. In the regulation, we increase the minimum salary of a professor by 30 percent. The remuneration system for academic teaching staff depends on the professor’s salary, he replied. He added that the 30 percent increase applies to all academic staff.
The head of the Ministry of Science also said that the current minimum salary for a professor is PLN 7,300. “This wage will be increased to over PLN 9,000. We are talking about minimum amounts, average earnings depend on this,” explained Minister Wieczorek. – I hope that a regulation on this matter will appear at the beginning of February. We have to wait for the final signing of the budget by the president. The increases will apply from January 1, this is what we have agreed with the Minister of Finance, assured the Minister of Science.
The National Science Center will receive funding
Radio Zet listeners – through the host – also asked the minister whether the funding for the National Science Center would increase. – It is no coincidence that expenditure on science and higher education increased by 22 percent under this government. They will also increase in the case of the National Science Center. We are just waiting for the budget to be approved, said Dariusz Wieczorek. He also announced that he would visit the National Science Center this week to meet the director of this institution.
The heads of the NCN insisted on a meeting with the new minister as soon as possible in a letter they sent to the head of the ministry on December 14, 2023. “We are counting on a new opening and quick and effective actions on the part of those in power that will support the National Science Center in implementing its mission, which is improving the quality and effectiveness of scientific research, as well as increasing the importance of Polish science in the world. The amount of subsidy currently received by the NCN does not in any way respond to the needs of the Polish scientific community,” wrote the chairman of the NCN Council, prof. Robert Hasterok and the director of the center, prof. Krzysztof Joźwiak. This month, the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAU), Jan Ostrowski, and the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), Marek Konarzewski, also appealed for an increase in the NCN budget.
