Alina Mirro comes from Russia, but her heart beats for Mexico. 7 years ago he met Marco Antonio González in Saint Petersburg. “I didn’t speak Russian, she didn’t speak Spanish,” recalls the man who fell in love with the woman who had grown up in Siberia and with whom he started a family in Chalchihuites, Zacatecas.
“I am Marco, this is my wife Alina and this is my son Klim. We are a somewhat crazy family. I am 300% Mexican, but my heart is half Japanese and my family is Russian. My son is developing in an environment with four languages: Spanish, English, Russian and Japanese,” Marco says in a video uploaded to TikTok.
In that network, his wife moves like a fish to water and calls herself Alina “La Rusa” in Mexico.

In St. Petersburg, fate brought him together with Alina, who was in her country after spending a few months in the United States.
-My mother, Santa Lucía, where am I going? For example, Alina remembers her reaction when she saw that Chalchihuites in Zacatecas, where her current husband is from, did not appear as prominently on Google Maps.
But he decided to travel. He accepted the invitation and they have not been divorced for seven years. He told more. He spent some time in the United States and says he liked the energy and joy of the Mexicans. They are workers, he acknowledged.
She traveled to St. Petersburg and confessed that she had an idea in her mind: “If I get married, it will be to a Mexican. My god, that’s what it was like… I married a Mexican. “It was love at first sight.”

Mexican and Russian cultures merged
Alina told Telemundo that it was difficult for her to understand her mother-in-law. “I didn’t know it was a pan.” He started speaking Spanish from the beginning. Together with her he learned to prepare beef stock and his partner’s mother, in turn, already knows Russian stock.
On November 20, 2023, she exclaimed to the world in a video: “Today on this special day I want to announce that I am 100% Mexican” and told questions asked to her at the naturalization exam: about the Angel of Independence , Pancho Villa and even who founded the Bank of Mexico.

“I feel at home here (…) The first thing I came to see was if I could find beets and potatoes in Zacatecas. That’s how we can survive.”
This Russian woman has incorporated her country’s gastronomy into Mexican dishes and at the table of Chalchihuites she now emphasizes that she always accompanies them with corn tortillas. “I love food very much,” says Alina “La Rusa” cheerfully in Mexico. (JO)
