Two-year-old Bronson Battersby died of starvation and dehydration. There was no one to feed him; I didn’t give him any water either. To add to the family’s sadness, his body was found next to his father’s, also dead.

“He was curled up next to his father,” El Universal describes.

His father, Kenneth, 60, had a heart problem and so he died days after Christmas, apparently due to cardiac arrest, Telediario reported.

It wasn’t until Tuesday, January 9, that they entered the house and found the father and son dead. They were in the ‘dilapidated’ basement of the house.

The residence, EFE noted, is located in the town of Skegness, in the county of Lincolnshire, in the northeast of England.

The case has caused great pain in the community and is being analyzed by the UK’s Police Conduct Regulator.

According to The Mirror, a neighbor is “pretty sure” she heard little Bronson crying through the walls of her apartment.

That happened on New Year’s Eve, said Stacey Foster, social affairs correspondent for ITV News, the British media reported.

What happened to the boy Bronson Battersby and his father

Apparently social services knew the family. “A Lincolnshire County Council social worker contacted Lincolnshire Police twice and received no response when they tried to knock on Mr Battersby’s home.

Lincolnshire Council responded, according to EFE, that a social worker contacted the minor’s father on December 27, 2023 and when he visited his home on January 2, no one responded.

They returned on January 4 and there was no response there either. “On the third attempt, on January 9, 2024, it was decided to contact the owner of the property to gain access to it by force.”

It was already late, when they entered they found the painful scene in the basement. In that room, where there was trash, a dog survived.

The neighbor said that at 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day, she heard Bronson calling emphatically for his father, as if he were trying to wake him up.

On December 26, The Mirror reported, little Bronson was last seen alive when he greeted a neighbor who called the boy and his father.

The next day, Kenneth texted a neighbor to say, “Thank you so much for your caring, it means a lot to Bronson and me.” A social worker contacted the father to arrange a visit, the outlet said.

On January 9 at 3 p.m., the child’s mother, Sarah Piesse, was informed of this tragedy.

In accordance with The mirrorthe boy, “classified as vulnerable and undergoing weekly checks, was found in his pajamas in the dark next to the family’s emaciated boxer dog, Skylar, who survived.”

The Bronson boy ‘wanted to be loved’

The neighbors are affected by this tragedy.

Amanda Tovey told the Mirror: “Ken tried to be a good dad but he was really struggling. “Social services were aware that he was not having a good time, but did little or nothing to help.”

“He had sole custody of Branson and they lived alone. The boy craved love and attention. Every time I saw him with his dad he hugged me and the last time I saw him he gave me a kiss on the cheek. “He just wanted to be loved and cuddled.”

The council previously told the Mirror that Bronson’s parents had shared custody of the child.

Sarah Piesse thinks about her ‘beautiful son’. Also in the ‘frantic search’ he allegedly carried out in the dark to find food or water. “He was too small to reach the fridge,” he complained, according to The Mirror.

There is no way to turn back time and the case has stirred feelings.

The so-called Independent Office on Police Conduct (IOPC), which oversees law enforcement, indicated on Thursday, January 18, that these are “heartbreaking circumstances” because of the way father and son died in their home, EFE reported.

We will investigate whether the police previously missed an opportunity to control Mr Battersby and Bronson.

“I wake up and think about him wandering around alone, starving,” Bronson’s mother said, according to The Mirror. “He must have been so weak at the end that he decided to give up and hug his father, hugging his legs. “I will never forgive myself for not being there.” (JO)
