What an eight-year-old child suffered, no adult would have endured. The child was tortured by an aunt and her husband. The woman herself stated that she had attacked her cousin with ‘cable, machetes and knives’.

These overwhelming atrocities took place over several days in the Dominican Republic, Antena 3 reported.

On the night of Saturday, January 13, 2024, the child without vital functions was taken to the regional hospital by his aunt Carmen Jiménez and González Valencio Rojas, Listín Diario indicated.

The aunt attacked the child for ‘bad behavior’

In a house in the Filibusteros sector, in the municipality of Verón in Punta Cana, the boy underwent an unspeakable ordeal. The aunt and her partner were arrested and are already facing charges. The child, Listín Diario described, “was constantly abused.”

At the hospital they discovered multiple wounds, worrying signs of torture and ‘mutilation’.

The Dominican press reports devastating information: “He had 147 wounds on his body, which caused hemorrhagic shock, hypovolemic shock, septic shock and the loosening of six of his teeth.”

Judge Francis Reyes Diloné classified the case as complex.

Carmen Jiménez confessed that she tortured her cousin “with knives, machetes and a cable, because in her opinion the boy was restless.”

The woman confessed to the crime and said she did it because the child was misbehaving, according to statements from authorities.

The minor was concern of the couple for eight months by decision of their father, Santiago Colomé Jiménez, the Spanish agency EFE reported.

Colomé is the brother of the suspect. He said that “he had not seen the child since November, but he gave the woman about $100 every 15 days for his support.”

The child was handed over to the father by his mother “because he has five other children and has to work to support them.”

What will happen to the murderous uncles?

According to Listín Diario, “a court imposed 18 months of preventive detention on Cristina Jiménez and González Valencio Rojas, her partner.”

The Dominican Justice declared the case complex. Antena 3 quoted CNN to explain that “according to Article 370 of that country’s Code of Criminal Procedure, when a case is declared complexthe Public Prosecution Service has a maximum of sixteen months to complete its investigation and, if necessary, file formal charges.”

The aunt was sent to the Higüey women’s prison, while Valencio Rojas will serve the aforementioned measure at the CCR-14 prison in Anamuya, Dominican media reported.

National dismay

Crime has hit the Dominicans. President Luis Abinader stated, according to Listín Diario, that the issue was discussed during his meeting on Monday, January 15, with the National Police.

“I want to tell you that we have stopped describing what happened to that child. I don’t think any of us who were there were even prepared to hear that atrocity,” the president said.

In pain, the victim’s great-grandmother, Victoria de los Santos, said that “the child’s mother communicated with him by phone (video call) and he always said he was fine, apparently “threatened” by the aunt.”

For De los Santos, what that aunt did is “unforgivable.” “This is catastrophic,” he described.

President Abinader was in favor of “taking advantage of the punishments,” adding, according to Infobae, that the aunt will not pay for this crime “even with 200 years in prison.”
