RTU MIREA teacher Shutov: a smartphone flashlight will detect a hidden camera
Vasily Shutov, a teacher at the KB-1 “Information Security” department of RTU MIREA, said that shops, hotels and even rented apartments are often equipped with hidden video cameras. He said this in a conversation with the Prime agency.
Shutov named a way to find a hidden camera using a smartphone and emphasized that to do this you need to shine a flashlight in a dark room. The camera design assumes a lens that will begin to glare. If you have an infrared source for shooting in the dark, turn off the lights and use your smartphone camera.
“The turned on IR emitter will appear purple or red on it,” the expert explained.
Among more modern methods, Shutov included the use of special programs that search for the source of the Wi-Fi signal: it is through the wireless network that video from cameras is transmitted to storage servers.
Earlier, Denis Kuskov, director of the information and analytical agency Telecom daily, spoke about the hidden function of the smartphone camera. According to him, the Time of flight sensor is capable of operating in an unlit room, which allows it to determine a more accurate distance to an object.
