IDC: Apple led the global smartphone market with a share of 20.1 percent
The leading manufacturer in the global smartphone market has changed. This was reported in an IDC report posted on the Businesswire website.
At the end of 2023, the largest smartphone manufacturer was Apple, which shipped 234.6 million units of devices to the market and received a share of 20.1 percent. The report states that the US IT giant had a good year with growth of 3.7 percent and therefore led the market. The former leader, Samsung, sold 226.6 million smartphones, gaining a share of 19.4 percent. Xiaomi is in third position with 145.9 million units of equipment and a share of 12.5 percent.
The top 5 also included Chinese companies Oppo and Transsion. Together they received a share of 16.9 percent. The remaining brands accounted for 31 percent of shipments. IDC specialists also named the total number of smartphones that companies supplied to the market as 1.166 billion.
“Apple is not only the only manufacturer in the top three to show positive annual growth every year, but also ranks first in the world for the first time in history,” the report’s authors emphasized. They also noted the widespread availability of affordable Android smartphones.
Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Ko called the iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple’s best-selling smartphone. The flagship device accounts for 40-45 percent of sales of all new iPhones.
