Data from Mediapanel show that the Chinese Temu application has only Allegro in front of it in Poland, and has overtaken brands such as AliExpress, Media Expert, Empik, RTV Euro AGD and Rossmann. According to data from December last year, Allegro had 19.36 million real users, and Temu had 13.63 million users, according to poznascihandlowe.pl.
This shortened the distance to Allegro
The distance between the Chinese platform and Allegro is large, but it shortened last month. While Allegro lost 1.75%. users, Temu increased by 3.63%. For now, however, the Chinese should pay attention to what is happening behind their backs rather than looking ahead. Because hot on their heels is Media Expert with 13.13 million users. Only three platforms in Mediapanel’s December survey have scores above 10 million real users. Below this threshold they land:
- Empik – 9.29 million
- AliExpress 8.63 million
- RTV Euro AGD 8.19 million
- Rossmann 7.5 million
- Amazon 6.74 million
- Erli 6.28 million
- Vinted 5.7 million.
Ago Phenomenon
has gained enormous popularity not only in Poland, offering very large discounts of up to 99%. original price. The vast majority of goods can be purchased for less than 3 dollars – converted into Polish zlotys, it is several zlotys. Another thing that encourages shopping is very low shipping costs, even to other countries. Temu also offers free products to users who successfully recommend the app to their friends through referral codes or social media.
Abroad, the application became very popular last year on the occasion of the “national holiday”, the Super Bowl. The company decided to buy advertising in prime time. The cost of such promotion can be up to several million dollars for a spot lasting several seconds. The ad informed viewers about the app and that the platform would allocate $10 million in discounts to new US users.
Privacy at risk?
The promotion turned out to be effective, because the Chinese “app” took the American market by storm. As he reported, “Temu overtook Shein, Amazon.com and Apple on the e-commerce market. Then it entered the Canadian market. Here it also gained enormous popularity, but also raised some concerns. Experts, however, point out that Temu is a company subsidiary of PDD Holdings. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and has subsidiaries registered mainly in China, which means that it may be subject to Chinese legal regulations. As CNN once reported, the Chinese e-commerce giant, which owns Temu, managed to bypass mobile user security software, which allows you to monitor activity in other applications, such as checking notifications or reading private messages. According to a CNN investigation involving cybersecurity researchers from Asia, Europe and the United States, the application exploited legal loopholes in system security Android operating systems, which made it possible to obtain data that in theory should not have been transferred to the application.
