Google Maps has a new feature. The end of signal problems? Not everyone will benefit

Google Maps has a new feature using Bluetooth coverage to ensure users don’t lose signal. The option will be helpful especially in places such as tunnels. However, not everyone will have the opportunity to use this technology.

According to reports from the website, Google Maps has been equipped with a new function. It is the support for Bluetooth beacons, which enables better navigation, among others, in tunnels. This will prevent the driver from getting lost when the GPS signal is not available.

Google Maps has a new feature using Bluetooth. How can I run it on my smartphone?

The technology uses Bluetooth to energy-efficiently transmit a signal for accurate location. To enable the feature, please update the application to the latest version. In the settings, in the “navigation” tab, the “route options” function should appear, where you will be able to activate new features in Google. The app can then ask for permission to use Bluetooth, which is a standard and required procedure for the technology to work properly. It’s worth remembering to leave this feature turned on while using the application so as not to lose the signal.

The technology will not work in several cases. Who won’t use the new feature?

The new option is not available to owners of iOS smartphones. Moreover, as reported by the portal, the function will only work if signals are installed in the tunnel. The similar navigation application Waze has established partnerships in this matter in several cities around the world, such as New York, Chicago, Boston, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and Brussels. The website noted that the first mentions of the new feature in Google Maps were reported by some users in October 2023, but it is only now that it is being widely implemented.
