Carlos Eduardo Sarmiento, a Venezuelan migrant, felt his legs going numb and to stop the bleeding he made a tourniquet himself with the braids (laces) from his sneakers. He had tried to board a train in Aguascalientes, Mexico called ‘The Beast‘to approach the border with the United States.
But he fell and was hit by the train. He lost his legs in the shocking accident.

“They left him alone,” complains the migrant’s cousin
He remembers what happened on December 6, 2023 as a nightmare, Noticias Univisión reported on January 5 of this new year.
“The train stopped to pick us up, but it was raining and there was a lot of dirt. “I slipped, I fell, when the train left again,” he said.
“It felt like my legs were falling asleep. I pressed hard with my braids, otherwise I would bleed to death there,” he continued to the aforementioned medium.
Alfredo Torres was among the police officers who helped the Venezuelan migrant on December 6.
“He was groping and asking for help,” Torres described to Univision.
“Those who were with him had him thrown away. “In practice, they let him die,” criticizes José Rafael Rivero, a cousin of the young man who left Venezuela in search of the “American dream.”

Tragedies of “The Beast”
Univision reporter Jésica Zermeño recalled that a five-month-old baby died after falling from her mother’s arms while she was trying to climb onto “The Beast” in motion. It was on January 1, 2024 in Nuevo León. The family is from Guatemala, but lives in Mexico.
Zermeño also said that in Aguascalientes a man died when the train hit him. The immigrant slept on the tracks. In addition, a five-year-old girl lost a leg in Querétaro.
Carlos Eduardo responded to the news channel: “I thank God, at least I’m still alive. “I wouldn’t try it again because it involves a lot of risks, a lot of work, a lot of things happening… I would also rather experience them in my country.”
