Will artificial intelligence translate a baby’s crying? A new AI tool has been created

During CES 2024, a new application based on artificial intelligence was presented. It is intended to help parents understand the child’s needs by explaining his or her crying. How does it work?

is developing at an incredible pace. Today, everyone can use tools such as ChatGPT. However, there are many more possibilities ahead. This was proven by the creators during this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show), where AI played a key role. One of the companies present at the event presented an application that – in their opinion – can translate a baby’s cry like any other language.

Application to translate baby’s crying. The creators showed new technology

The startup Capella (the application has the same name) and a team of engineers from three important research centers in the United States: MIT, Berkeley and Stanford are responsible for it. They have developed a tool that can detect sounds made by a child and then translate them. Thanks to this, parents should be able to understand what is wrong with him.

– The application basically replaces a traditional electronic nanny. It also does so much more. Its most important feature is that we can explain a baby’s crying – explained Apolline Deroche, founder and CEO of Cappella, in an interview with the website.

How does the app work? You need two devices to use it. One should be left with the child and the other should be kept by the parents. When a child starts making noise, the application uses artificial intelligence to recognize sounds. Based on this, the tool will indicate whether the baby is hungry, sleepy or uncomfortable and informs the parents about it. According to the creators, the effectiveness of the application is 95%.

The application is not for everyone – it will be paid. However, there is another one on the horizon

Capella is now available in the Apple App Store and will soon be available for download in the Google Play Store. It is only available in a subscription that costs $10 per month, i.e. approximately PLN 40. However, a similar tool was presented at CES 2023 – Qbear+. Its creators also claim that they are able to translate a baby’s cry. In this case, however, it is a separate device. A Taiwanese company is responsible for its production.
