Have you received such an email from Netflix? Be careful, it’s a trap

Poles receive e-mails with information about problems with payment for access to Netflix. Experts warn: this is a trap set by cyber fraudsters. It’s worth being especially careful because you have more to lose than just your streaming account.

Cybercriminals are constantly looking for new ways to steal confidential information, credit card numbers or withdraw money from your account. This time they are trying to take over accounts on the popular Netflix platform. It is worth being especially careful because you may lose more than just access to your favorite movies and series.

Experts warn against a new scam. They impersonate Netflix

Experts from CyberRescue warn against another scam in which cybercriminals impersonate Netflix. The platform is very popular in Poland, so many people may potentially click on e-mails sent by fraudsters. These are, of course, stylized as e-mails sent by the streaming platform and contain, among others: Netflix logos.

The messages usually start with information about the discovery of alleged problems with the account or payment for access to the website. “We have detected a problem with the billing information associated with your account,” begins one of the messages sent by the scammers. Further in the e-mail, the authors of the scam threaten to soon block the membership due to failure to make payments for the next period.

The message contains a link (in the form of an active button, which makes the scam a little more credible) that leads to a crafted website stylized as the Netflix website. There, of course, you will find a request to log in to your Netflix account using your email address or phone number. The aim of the attack is to take over access to the account on the streaming platform, but not only that. As experts from CyberRescue write, criminals can use an e-mail address and telephone number to send spam and carry out the so-called spear phishing, i.e. personalized fraud, which may have much more serious consequences.

The entire scam was prepared quite carefully, because both the content and appearance of the email and the fake website seem to precisely imitate real Netflix messages. Moreover, the email contains information that the link only works for 15 minutes, which is obviously an attempt to put pressure on the user. Experts advise to read all news carefully and remind that haste is a bad advisor. We should also always pay attention to the exact address of the sender of the message and the website where we intend to enter any data.
